Launch Failure - Visual c++ runtime error

Hi,

Having some problems with an app we have sequenced which is failing to launch on a particular terminal server.

When we launch the app it loads to 100% and then a Visual c== runtime error appears

Runtime Error!

Program: X:\IressNeo.v1\IRESS.EXE

There is no error in the sftlog.txt

I can launch this app successfully from other terminal servers. They are running a different version of the App-V client.
Working client is v4.5.1.16371
Non-working client is v4.5.1.15580

I can also see the visual c++ version are different on each machine
Working TS has Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable v8.0.56336 and Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 ATL Update kb973923 v8.0.50727.4053
Non working TS has Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable v8.0.56336 but not the update.

The problem is the person who built the TS with the working client is no longer here and I cannot figure out how they got to that working version with the packages I have available.

Does anyone know of a reference to all the app-V versions?

Can you recreate the error on a fresh/new system(installing the same App-V and C++ versions)?
What are the versions of the sequencer and VC++ on the sequencing machine?

Unfortunately I don't have a fresh system to test on however I did the following:

Run windows update which installed the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 ATL Update kb973923 v8.0.50727.4053 patch.

Uninstalled App-V. Rebooted
Installed App-v 4.5 rebooted
Installed App-V 4.5 CU. Rebooted
Installed App-V 4.5 CU1 Hotfix Package 4. Rebooted.

This machine now has exactly the same App-V and Visual C++ versions as the working terminal servers.

Package still failed with same error.

Sequencer is running 4.5.1.15580 which is App-V 4.5CU1 and 8.0.56336 which is the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable.

I'm going to update the sequencer to 4.5 CU1 hotfix package 4 and apply the Visual C++ patch then repackage the application again.
A nightmare as every other package is working fine.

Hi,

We fixed it somewhat. I upgraded the App-V client to 4.6 on another terminal server with the same OS build and now the package is working however a few other packages have stopped working but with different errors.
I'm in two minds as to try and revert back to our production version of APP-V and get this package working or get the few packages that erroring to work with the 4.6 of APP-V.

Ok, built a completely fresh server and installed App-V client 4.5 CU1 and hotfix package 4.
Microsoft patches current to today.

All appears to be working fine.

This server is at the same patch level as the non working one which one exception. The non-working has had patch Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 ATL Update kb973923 v8.0.50727.4053 installed manually. The working one had this patched deployed automatically with the App-V 4.5 CU1 install.
I have read about App-V problems with the way Visual C++ is deployed. I have tried removing this patch and reinstalling App-V 4.5 CU1 but the App-V error persists.

I'm just going to need to rebuild this server.

Seems the issue in this topic was related to Citrix EdgeSight.

I had a similiar error and in my case the latest version of the ES agent(5.3.4139.3) didn't fix the problem, the fix was to exclude the process from EdgeSight monitoring.
